I am a licensed (MFC 36930) through the state of California as a Marriage and Family Therapist. I am also affiliated with Christian Counseling Center of San Jose.
My counseling experience began in 1982 when I
transitioned from the ideal world of Bible College to the very real world of
living in a residential treatment home becoming an instant parent (actually
a residential counselor) to emotionally disturbed juvenile delinquent boys
who held no reservations telling me what they believed I should do and how
to do it, concepts no where to be found in the Bible! I was ready
to give notice after only one day of being there, and this after I had made
a commitment of one year. A good friend encouraged me with simple wisdom to
give it some time and I ended up living in that home for the next two and a
half years. The first day working there still probably ranks as one of the
most difficult days in my entire life! I soon transferred to another home
in the organization as a senior counselor and worked there for another two
and a half years. I could never have imagined how this experience would
serve me as does even right now especially working with families and their
children and adolescents. I went on to work in school settings and
counseling agencies before settling into private practice in 1995.
I've been married for
17 years and I have a son in elementary school and a daughter in high
school.
